So you finally got a new roof! Your happy, and it looks great. THAT"S GREAT! There's one question.. Where is all of your trash now? Hopefully you can say for sure it's at the landfill where it belongs.. BUT.. are you sure?

I decided to write his after reading an email we received from a customer of ours. It reads :
" Hey AHR:

Hope you guys are doing well. I wanted to say thanks for everything you guys did for us. The new roof looks great. I want to ask a favor. I know you guys had a dumpster delivered to our home and that's great but the problem is a lot of companies try and cut corners on trash disposal. Many people simply tell the customer the trash is going to the landfill and load up a truck and it disappears, but does it really? My sister contacted me yesterday to give us bad news. Her daughter is very sick. Come to find out the farm she is living on has a polluted well. When the EPA researched the reasons for this pollution they found close to 150 tons of building waste buried on the property. It seems the prior owner was in construction like you guys and was using the land as his own little dump zone. She also found other area's were sink holes were forming, and the EPA agent believes that more material may be found there. It seems that this is a common practice. I took the liberty of calling a few local guys about doing our garage (don't worry , your getting the job!" Just to ask them if there was a way they could do "disposal" for cheap and you wouldn't believe how many admitted to being able to "dump it at a friends land" or quoted me a price that even I know is too low since the dump is charging over $40 per ton. I am hoping you can help spread the word by letting your customers know about this and perhaps save someone else my sisters headache. It just doesn't make sense to do potential harm to others simply to save a few bucks. What's worse is the guys who say they are going to dump it at the dump AND charge the dumps prices but then do not do so. Why do people not ASK FOR A RECEIPT??!!. Anyway, hopefully you can help out

Thanks

The sad thing is how common place this kind of stuff is. When we worked from Iowa , almost every construction company did this same thing. The guy I personally worked for before starting this company did it all the time. Last I heard he may have finally been caught but really, you should see the PILES of building materials he dumped. At least he was semi-health concious and filled up old septic tanks and then buried them. I agree with Chasity. Why do people not at the very least ask for a receipt? As she stated we take ALL the question out of where our materials go by RENTING A DUMPSTER! However even if we were to haul away trash we would be HAPPY to supply a receipt. A word to the wise, if your going to request a receipt .. A) Make sure its a REAL RECEIPT.. and B) in the case of a roof, remember how many bundles are going up on your roof. The same amount should be coming off..1 bundle of shingle weighs about 60-70 lbs, do the math.. If your reciept says 2 tons, and 5 tons came off the roof. ASK QUESTIONS! It's sad that you as a home owner need to do this but EVERYONE needs to do their part. You may THINK that you are saving money, but what you may be doing is hurting someone down the road... If you could save an adult or child from suffering.. by asking a question.. and making sure someone doesn't pollute the area.. is it not worth it? We think it is !
